A Weekend Ski Trip from Beijing: Chongli by Train, or Ski Inside the City

How to ski a weekend from Beijing without a car: the Qinghe to Taizicheng train, free resort shuttles, the 68-yuan ski gear service, coaches, and the Beijing resorts you can reach in an hour.

Two ways to do it

From Beijing you can either take the train to Chongli, the 2022 Olympic ski area in Hebei, or stay in the city and ski one of the 13 Beijing resorts that opened in 2025-26. Chongli is the proper ski weekend. The Beijing hills are for an afternoon or an evening.

Option 1: Chongli by high-speed train

The Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed line leaves from Beijing North and Qinghe stations. Qinghe connects to Metro Line 13 and is the quicker start: about an hour to Taizicheng, the station for Genting, Thaiwoo and Wanlong. The line ends at Chongli station, beside Fulong. During the ski season extra D-series trains run alongside the G trains. Check times in the 12306 app or on Trip.com, and use your passport as your ticket at the gates.

At Taizicheng, free resort shuttles take you to the slopes; Wanlong is about 15 minutes away.

If you bring your own skis or board, book the snow-gear service in 12306. In 2025-26 it cost 68 yuan per set, for gear up to 200 cm in total length, width and height, and trains that allow gear are marked in the app. The service covered Beijing North, Qinghe, Badaling Great Wall, Donghuayuan North, Huailai, Xiahuayuan North, Taizicheng and Chongli.

There is also a coach. In 2025-26 it ran from 14 November to 16 March from Capital Airport, Beijing South station and Shahe Gaojiaoyuan metro for 80 yuan, and from Daxing Airport for 100 yuan, with two routes covering the main resorts. Booking was by phone or WeChat.

A sample weekend

Take a Friday evening train from Qinghe to Taizicheng and sleep near the slopes. Ski Thaiwoo on Saturday, a good mountain for mixed groups with 16 of its 22 runs graded beginner or intermediate, and spend the evening in Thaiwoo town, which has hot springs, an ice rink and bars. On Sunday ski Wanlong, where 19 of the 32 runs are advanced, or Genting if you prefer parks. Take a late-afternoon train back.

Book rooms early for weekends, which fill with Beijing skiers. Our where to stay in Chongli guide compares the bases.

Option 2: ski inside Beijing

Beijing's own hills are smaller but close. In 2025-26 Jundushan in Changping, about 30 km from the centre, ran day sessions 8:00-18:00 and night skiing 17:00-22:00. Nanshan in Miyun opened on 8 December with night skiing to 22:00, and a 58-yuan return shuttle from the city; or take the train from Beijing Chaoyang to Miyun in 30 minutes and a free 3 km shuttle.

For something bigger, the National Alpine Skiing Centre at Yanqing, the Olympic alpine venue, has 894 m of vertical from a 2,198 m top. Direct buses ran from Guomao and Liujiayao, and the 2025-26 season opened on 22 November.

Visa note

Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei are all inside the 240-hour visa-free transit area, so a Chongli weekend works on transit if your passport qualifies and you fly on to a third country. Many passports also qualify for 30-day visa-free entry until 31 December 2026. Details are on our China travel essentials page.

Costs to expect

2026-27 Chongli prices had not been published on 20 October 2026. In 2025-26 rack day tickets ran from 443 yuan at Thaiwoo on weekdays to 800 yuan at Wanlong on holidays, with official-channel discounts often near half. Weekend rates are higher than weekday ones, so a Friday off is the easiest saving.
