Book a hotel licensed to host foreign guests; it registers you with the police at check-in. Big-brand and resort hotels do this routinely.
Ask whether lift tickets are included or discounted with the room. Resort hotels often sell packages.
Hotels at the resorts accept international cards more readily than small guesthouses, which usually expect Alipay or WeChat Pay.
Book early for New Year and the Spring Festival, the busiest and most expensive weeks.
Weekdays in December, January and March are the easiest to find rooms.
Weekend rooms fill with Beijing skiers, so book Friday and Saturday nights first.
