Beijing to Chongli by Train: Step-by-Step for Skiers

Book the Beijing-Taizicheng high-speed train on 12306 or Trip.com with your passport, pick the right Beijing station, reach each resort by free shuttle or taxi.

The short answer

Take the G or D train on the Beijing–Zhangjiakou high-speed line from Beijing North or Qinghe to Taizicheng, then board a free resort shuttle to Genting, Thaiwoo or Wanlong. From Qinghe the ride is about an hour; from Beijing North it is about 1 hour 25 minutes. For Fulong, ride to Chongli station instead, which is next to Chongli town and the resort. If Taizicheng trains sell out, Chongli station is also the backup: ride there and take a taxi or DiDi to your resort.

Pick a Beijing station

Two Beijing stations serve the line. Qinghe (清河) is the faster start for most travellers: it connects to Metro Line 13 and the Changping Line, and its trains reach Taizicheng in roughly 58 to 71 minutes. Beijing North (北京北) is beside Xizhimen in the west of the city, served by Metro Lines 2, 4 and 13, and suits you if you are staying near the Second Ring Road, but allow about 1 hour 25 minutes to Taizicheng. Both stations use the same passport-based ticketing.

Friday-evening trains out of Beijing and Sunday-afternoon trains back sell out first, because Chongli is the capital's weekend ski destination. In 2025-26, extra D-series trains ran alongside the G trains in the peak ski season. Some services make intermediate stops, so check the timetable in the app. Our Chongli guide explains the lay of the land.

Book on 12306, step by step

China Railway's 12306 app and its English website (www.12306.cn/en/) accept foreign passports. The steps:

  • Download the 12306 app for iOS or Android, or open the English website.
  • Register with your passport details: your passport number, your name exactly as it appears in your passport, your date of birth and a phone number or email for verification codes.
  • Verify your identity. Foreign passport holders can complete the check online, or at a station ticket window with the passport in hand if the online check does not go through. Do this before travel day, not in the queue for your train.
  • Search Beijing to Taizicheng (太子城) or Beijing to Chongli (崇礼). Sort by departure time and leave enough margin to reach the shuttle and the lifts.
  • Pick seats. Second class (二等座) is the usual choice; first class (一等座) costs more and can be worth it on busy weekend mornings. Check current fares in the app.
  • Pay with a foreign bank card or a mobile wallet. Foreign-card payment does not always go through; if it fails, use Trip.com (below).
  • Your passport is your ticket. Bring the same passport you booked with and present it at the gates.

If 12306 rejects your card

Trip.com sells the same trains for a small service fee. The site is in English, generally accepts international cards and issues the booking in your account. If you only need seats, it is the usual fallback. If you also want the snow-gear service, check where it can be booked; in 2025-26 it was booked in the 12306 app.

Bringing skis or a board

Do not assume you can simply carry skis or a board on board. The railway's rule is that sports gear over 200 cm in combined length, width and height must be checked as consigned baggage, and most ski sets, and many boards once bagged, are at or over that limit. On the Beijing–Chongli line in 2025-26, the snow-gear service let passengers book a gear space in the 12306 app for 68 yuan per set, for items up to 200 cm combined, with a dedicated check-in channel at the station. Trains that allowed gear were marked in 12306. Check the current 12306 rules, and book the snow-gear service where it is offered; our gear post covers it in detail.

The simplest option is often to rent in Chongli and travel light. Every major resort rents skis and boards at the base, and some sell lift-plus-rental tickets.

Reaching each resort from the train

Resorts run free shuttles from Taizicheng station to Genting, Thaiwoo and Wanlong; the ride to Wanlong was about 15 minutes in 2025-26. Taizicheng Ice and Snow Town, the Olympic-era town with an award plaza and hotels, sits under 2 km from the station. Fulong is reached from Chongli station, which is next to Chongli town and the resort; take a short taxi or DiDi ride, or ask your hotel about a pickup.

Shuttle times are not published in English, so ask your hotel or resort over WeChat for the current schedule before you travel, and screenshot your resort's Chinese name to show staff at the station. If you miss a shuttle, a taxi or DiDi is the fallback.

Coaches as an alternative

In 2025-26, ski coaches ran from Beijing South station and both Beijing airports to the Chongli resorts for 80 yuan (100 yuan from Daxing), from 14 November to 16 March, with booking by phone or WeChat. One route served Wanlong, Fulong and Cuiyunshan, and another served Genting, Thaiwoo and the Winter Olympic Village. Check whether they run again in 2026-27. Driving yourself requires a Chinese driving licence, because China does not recognise International Driving Permits.

What can go wrong

Popular trains sell out on peak weekends, over the New Year holiday and around Chinese New Year (New Year's Day falls on Saturday 6 February 2027, and the official Spring Festival holiday lasts roughly a week). Book as soon as sales open for your date; 12306 shows when that is. If Taizicheng is sold out, try a different departure, a D train, or a ticket to Chongli station with a taxi onward.

Mobile data can be slow inside busy stations. Keep your booking confirmation open or screenshotted before you reach the gates, and carry the physical passport, because that is what the gates and staff check. Install Amap and DiDi before you travel for the last leg.

Quick answers

  • Can I book as a foreigner with just my passport? Yes. 12306 accepts foreign passports after identity verification, and your passport is your ticket at the gates.
  • Which Beijing station is better? Qinghe for most travellers: it is faster to Taizicheng and connects to Metro Line 13 and the Changping Line. Beijing North works if you are staying near Xizhimen.
  • How long is the ride? About an hour from Qinghe to Taizicheng, and about 1 hour 25 minutes from Beijing North.
  • What if Taizicheng is sold out? Ride to Chongli station and take a taxi or DiDi, try another departure, or check Trip.com.
  • Can I carry skis on the train? Only within the rules: gear over 200 cm combined length, width and height must be consigned. Check 12306 and book the snow-gear service where it is offered, or rent at the resort.
