A Family Ski Trip to China: Where to Go With Kids and What to Pack

The easiest places in China to ski with children: Fulong next to Chongli station, Thaiwoo's village, Yabuli's new beginner area and Club Med, gentle Changbaishan runs and indoor halls. Plus cold-weather and booking tips.

What makes a resort work for families

With children the priorities change: short transfers, gentle runs near the base, somewhere warm to retreat to, and things to do when small legs are tired. Several Chinese resorts are good at this, and their facilities are mostly new.

Fulong, Chongli

Fulong sits on the edge of Chongli town, beside Chongli station at the end of the high-speed line from Beijing, so there is no shuttle between train and slopes. In 2024 it had a 3,000 m² indoor children's playground called Polar Bear House next to a large ski service hall, and Xinhua reported a 300,000 m² terrain park for older kids. In 2025-26 its November and March weekday day tickets were 261 yuan, the cheapest periods of its season.

Thaiwoo, Chongli

Thaiwoo suits mixed groups: 16 of its 22 runs are beginner or intermediate on the 2026-27 trail table. The village has a 1,000 m² ice rink and hot springs, so a parent who is not skiing has something to do with a child who has had enough. It also sold magic-carpet-only day tickets in 2025-26, a cheaper option for first-timers who will not leave the beginner area.

Yabuli, Heilongjiang

For 2025-26 Yabuli added three beginner trails, snow tubing in the beginner area and a tube-track coaster. Club Med Yabuli, the first Club Med in China, bundles the lift pass, lessons and meals, and its instructors speak English, which takes most of the language and payment friction out of a family trip. Bear in mind that Harbin's January average low is -22.4°C.

Gentle runs at Changbaishan

Changbaishan Huamei Shengdi (formerly Luneng) in Jilin has about 32 ha of gentle terrain over 15 trails, aimed at beginners, intermediates and families, plus an 11 km cross-country trail. It is now reachable on the Shenyang-Baihe high-speed line, opened in September 2025.

Short sessions: Beijing hills and indoor halls

For a first try, a few hours may be enough. Beijing's Jundushan and Nanshan run day and evening sessions close to the city. Indoor halls such as Shanghai L+SNOW and the new Shenzhen hall let children try snow in any season; see our indoor ski halls post.

Practical tips

Dress children for real cold, with a face cover, mitts and hand warmers, and plan indoor breaks every hour or two in the northeast and Altay. Book a hotel licensed for foreign guests at or near the slopes so naps are easy. Ask about child prices when you book, since we could not verify children's rates for 2026-27. On the Beijing to Chongli line, the 12306 snow-gear service (68 yuan per set in 2025-26) saves carrying skis through the station with children in tow.

Avoid New Year and the Spring Festival (6 February 2027), when Chinese families fill the resorts too. Our where to stay in Chongli guide marks the family-friendly bases.
