Changbaishan Wanda is the only big ski village at Changbai Mountain, with 43 runs, a Club Med, and a high-speed rail station since September 2025.
Changbaishan International Resort sits deep in the Changbai Mountain forest in Fusong County, Jilin, not far from the border with North Korea. It is not a suburb of a Chinese city: there is no metro, the small town of Songjianghe is the nearest place with life outside the resort, and almost everything you need for a week is inside the resort gates. What that distance buys is a mountain that still looks wild. Heaven Lake, the crater lake on the border, and the scenic areas around the volcano are well over an hour away by road, and winter access to them is often restricted, so treat a sightseeing day as something to plan and confirm in advance rather than a quick hop from the lifts.
The base is a Wanda-built village rather than a row of hotels: a Club Med, several other international hotels, restaurants, a short commercial street, and kids' clubs and indoor pools at some properties. From the base at 835 m, twelve lifts serve 43 named runs covering about 33 km, rising to a summit just over 1,200 m with 370 m of vertical in between.
That vertical is modest, and it is the trade you are making. This is not a resort for chasing metres. It suits families and mixed-ability groups who want a full week on snow with a mountain behind it. Jilin's snow is the cold, dry north-east kind, which holds its texture on a cold day instead of turning to slush by noon, and the season runs from about mid-November to early April, with the most reliable snow between mid-December and early March. The base is low enough that altitude never becomes a problem. Strong skiers have a solid share of advanced runs plus tree skiing on the flanks; everyone else has long, forgiving runs and a village to walk around once the lifts stop.
For a side-by-side with Beidahu and Songhua Lake, see the Skiing in Jilin comparison.
The terrain breakdown is roughly 27% beginner, 37% intermediate and 36% advanced, so more than a third of the mountain is graded advanced. Beginners have long, wide green and blue runs from the mid-mountain lift, and the ski school runs private and group lessons. Intermediates can spend a week on the groomed red and black runs and not repeat themselves. Strong skiers and riders will find a small terrain park, tree skiing on the flanks, and enough pitch on the blacks to keep them interested.
If you have kids, this is about as easy as a big Chinese resort gets. Non-ski activities at the base village (kids' clubs at some hotels, indoor pools, evening entertainment) keep a non-skiing day manageable.
Day ticket prices for the 2025-26 season were not separately published in our verified sources, so treat anything you see online as an estimate. Buy through the resort's WeChat mini-program or via Trip.com, and bring your passport. Multi-day tickets are usually cheaper per day, and the resort sometimes bundles night skiing in midweek. There is no Ikon Pass at Changbaishan Wanda, so it does not combine with Beidahu on one pass.
A short list of booking channels to be aware of:
The Shenyang-Baihe high-speed line opened on 28 September 2025. The fastest trains now cover Beijing Chaoyang to Changbaishan in 4 hours 33 minutes, and Shenyang North to Changbaishan in 1 hour 53 minutes. There are two stations you might see on a booking screen: Changbaishan station serves the North Slope scenic area, while Changbaishan West (renamed from Songjianghe in March 2025) is the one for the Wanda resort. Take the West station. The headline fastest times above are to Changbaishan station, so check 12306 for the current timings to Changbaishan West. From West it is a short road transfer to the resort; arrange a hotel pickup or taxi in advance.
For a Beijing arrival, you can take the high-speed train straight through without flying. For Seoul, Tokyo or other international origins, fly to Changchun Longjia, or into Changbaishan Airport (NBS) if there is a direct flight from your city. The resort is well set up for both.
Changbaishan Airport (NBS) sits on the east side of the resort. It has domestic flights from Beijing, Shanghai, Changchun and other Chinese cities; check Trip.com for the current schedule. From the airport, the resort is a short drive and most hotels offer pickup if you ask. Flight times into NBS are weather-prone in deep winter: fog, snow and ice can delay flights by hours, so keep a buffer on either side if you have onward flights.
If you fly into Changchun Longjia, allow 4 to 5 hours by car, or take the train from Changchun through to Changbaishan station.
| Option | Location | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Club Med Changbaishan | In the resort village | All-inclusive, English-speaking staff, easiest for families |
| Other slopeside hotels (Westin, Sheraton, Holiday Inn, etc.) | In the resort village | Couples and groups who want ski-in, ski-out without the Club Med package |
| Off-site guesthouses | Outside the resort gates | Travellers watching their budget; allow 15-30 minutes by car |
Older listings name Westin, Sheraton and Holiday Inn in the village, but Chinese resort villages change flags and brands frequently. Confirm the current operator on the official resort website or Trip.com before you book.
Changbai Mountain itself is a big part of the appeal. Heaven Lake, the crater lake at 2,189 m on the North Korean border, is usually ice-covered from mid-October through mid-June. Winter access to the scenic areas depends on the weather and on the management decisions of the day; check before you go. Hot springs are common at the resort and nearby, and our hot springs guide covers the etiquette.
The Wanda resort village has a small commercial street with restaurants, a convenience store and a few cafes. For local dishes, look for Korean-Chinese fusion restaurants in the village and the nearby town of Songjianghe.
For more about Changbaishan Wanda itself, see the resort page.
January temperatures at the resort are routinely -20°C or colder at the summit. Two thin insulating layers under a shell, plus goggles (not sunglasses), a face cover, and glove liners are not optional. Our cold-weather guide covers the layering details.
Jilin is outside the 240-hour visa-free transit zone, so use 30-day visa-free entry if your passport qualifies (it runs to 31 December 2026 unless renewed) or get a visa. WeChat Pay and Alipay work with foreign cards now; see our China travel essentials page for the setup steps.
