Snow depth, new snow, 7-day snowfall forecast, temperature and wind for the Xinjiang ski resorts: Jikepulin Hemu, Koktokay, Jiangjunshan, Silk Road and Baiyun.
The Altay Mountains in northern Xinjiang have deep, dry natural snow and China's biggest verticals, at Jikepulin Hemu and Koktokay. Resorts near Urumqi, such as Silk Road and Baiyun, sit in the Tianshan. The table shows each resort's current snow depth, today's snowfall, the 7-day snowfall forecast, temperature and wind.
Koktokay opened on 12 October in 2025 and plans a season of about 240 days into May. Jiangjunshan and Jikepulin usually run from about December to mid April.
Altay calls itself the snow capital. Its winters are long and very cold, so natural snow stays dry and light.
Jikepulin and Koktokay have more than 1,200 m of vertical, so a base reading says little about conditions at the top.
Roads to Hemu and Koktokay can close in storms; check wind and new snow together before travelling.
When does skiing start in Xinjiang? Koktokay is usually first: it opened on 12 October 2025. Most other resorts open in November or December.
Where should I fly? Altay Xuedu (AAT) for Jiangjunshan, Fuyun (FYN) for Koktokay, Kanas (KJI) or Altay for Jikepulin, and Urumqi (URC) for Silk Road and Baiyun.
Is the snow natural? Mostly in Altay, which has long cold winters. Resorts also make snow to open early.
